Do you prioritise self-care?

We often talk about self-care but how often do we actually make time for ourselves?

What do we mean by self-care? For everyone this can be different - some think that self-care means pampering themselves physically whereas for others it can be looking after themselves emotionally.

What difference can practising regular self-care techniques do for you? Self-care can help manage the symptoms of many mental health problems. They may also help prevent some problems from developing or getting worse.

I had a look at the Mind charity website and they had some great tips for looking after yourself that you might find helpful.

1. Stay aware of your mental health - watch out for warning signs and triggers. Keep a diary of what has worked in the past and use it to build your self esteem.

2. Stay connected to people - even a text or phone call can make a difference.

3. Peer support - talk to others and share with others that may have had similar experiences so you feel supported.

4. Therapeutic techniques - practice mindfulness, use relaxation techniques and reconnect with nature.

5. Look after your physical health - get well, get sleep, consume less toxins such as alcohol or smoking.

6. Reach out to a specialist - this could be a mental health charity or therapy such as counselling or life coach. Tagged in the post are places you can reach out to.

When will you put some self-care into your diary?
